JALANDHAR
Under the Punjab Government's intensive ‘Yodh Nashian Virudh’ campaign aimed at spreading awareness against drugs, a marathon titled 'Daurda Punjab' was organized today by City Group, Radio Mirchi, Thind Hospital, and Lovely Bake Studio, with the support of the Jalandhar District Administration.
Special participation in the event included Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal and Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur, who took part in the 3-kilometer category and called for unity against drugs.
During the event, held at the local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner administered an oath to around 6,500 individuals, including a large number of youth, to fight against drugs, oppose those helping drug traffickers, and inspire addicts to quit drugs, all aimed at creating drug-free and Rangla Punjab.
After the oath ceremony, the marathon was flagged off from Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, which, after passing through various points, concluded back at the stadium. More than 6,000 participants took part in the marathon, which was organized in 3 km, 5 km, and 7 km categories, including people of all age groups alongside the youth.
While addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal and Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur stated that under the leadership of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, a large number of institutions and individuals are joining the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign. They said the enthusiasm, energy, and strong determination witnessed here is a testimony to the complete eradication of drugs and the creation of a drug-free and Rangla Punjab. They praised the remarkable show of unity by the residents of Jalandhar against drugs through their massive participation. They appealed especially to the youth to turn the government’s campaign into a mass movement and urged them to remember and act upon the oath taken against drugs throughout their lives.
Later, the youth who secured the top three positions in the marathon were honoured.
In the 3 km (Girls) category, Suman, Anuradha, and Darshika secured the top three positions.
In the Boys category, Anmol Singh, Hans Raj, and Gautam Mehta bagged the first three positions.
Similarly, in the 5 km category, Jobanpreet Singh came first, Rajveer Singh second, and Akhil Kumar third.
In the 7 km (Girls) category, Kajal Kumari secured first place, while in the Boys category, Shubham stood first, Ankit second, and Raghavjeet third.
Special recognition was also given to Mahinder Lal, Paramjit Kaur, and Jatinder Sachdeva for participating in the Senior Citizen category.
Certificates were distributed to all participants of the marathon.
