NURMAHAL

 More than five years after
declaring200 meters adjoining nagar council office and tehsil office as a no-vendor zone, the Nurmahal nagar council (NC) has failed to implement the town vending committee’s decision taken in its meeting held on July 17, 2015.
The NC had formed TVC under The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and regulation of street vending) Act, 2014.
The committee had decided that only mobile vending will be allowed and in street with less than 10 feet width, no mobile vending will be allowed. As per Act, the NC must provide basic amenities along with the smart vendors’ identity cards to them.
NC had conducted a survey of street vendors in 2014 and had
identified around 64 vendors. No certificates have been issued to the vendor yet. Vendors keep them vends stationery near NC office and on the approach road to Nurmahal Sarai.
Illegal encroachments by vendors and unregulated business are one of the biggest challenges before the authorities.   The NC had formed a TVC in July 2014, which was re-casted in 2015 to implement the National Policy on Urban Street Vendors, 2009.
NC president Jagat Mohan Sharma said that a meeting of TVC was held recently  where members discussed two new places for shifting vends and gave its approval to shift Rehris to back side bus stand  and in front of telephone exchange . He said that TVC proposal has been approved by the house and   senior town planner Jalandhar and has been forwarded with design to director local bodies for issuing notification .NC executive officer  D.S.Grewal said that principal secretary local government has issued a notification declaring back side ,New bus stand ,ward no.6 and Kachapacka Vehra ,near telephone exchange as vending zones. He said nc will provide necessary facilities to street vendors at notified zones before shifting Rehris .
