Forest department and central panel plant saplings in villages

Lay thrust on afforestation for conserving water and enhancing green cover

 

 JALANDHAR: In a major step aimed towards conserving the water and environment in the district, the Central Panel on visit under ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyaan’ and the Forest Department initiated a major plantation drive in various villages of the district.

Led by Forest Range officersRajinder Kumar andDavinder Pal Singh and members of Central Panel on Jal Abhiyaan Director DefencePC Gupta and ScientistRavi Aggarwal plantation was done in village Pandari Jagir, Bhatura, Bhandall, Rurka Kalan and others during the drive. The Forest officers apprised the members of the central panel that the department has already embarked a major drive to ensure that 550 saplings were planted in every village for commemorating the 550th parkash utsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. They said that major focus was being laid on planting traditional varieties of plant which were best suited for the environment of the state.  

Meanwhile, the officers, while interacting with people, said that the drive was aimed enhancing green cover in the district adding that the entire exercise was aimed at conserving water table in district and enhancing green cover in it. Exhorting the residents of district to play a pivotal role for making it a clean, green and pollution free district, they said that such plantation drives were all the more important as the depleting green cover was a cause of concern for everybody as it poses  a serious hazard to the environment and human health. They said that it was bounden duty of every individual to come forward and plant more and more number of trees to provide ‘green lungs’ to our district. Soliciting fulsome support of people in this noble cause, they called upon them plant and upkeep atleast sapling for the sake of their coming generations. 

On the occasion Block Forest OfficerPritpal Singh, Beat InchargeMalkiat Singh and others were also present.
