32 cases of dengue larva found in district under special drive

JALANDHAR: In a major drive to against water borne diseases in vulnerable places of the district, a team of anti-larva wing of the health department on Friday detected 32 cases of dengue larva in various localities of city during checking under ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’.

Teams of the anti-larva cell led by Pawan Kumar, Amit Kumar, Sher Singh, Amanpreet Singh, Shakti Gopal, Vinod Kumar, Pradeep Singh, Satwant Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Jaswinder singh, Gurvinder Singh, Rajwinder Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Sanjiv Kumar, Raj Kumar, Satpal, Dharam Raj and Harvinder Singh undertook checking in various localities of city including Gandhi Camp, Garha, Basti Danishmanda, Suraajganj, New Santokhpura, Salempur Musalmaana, Kathera Mohalla, Saini Colony Sodal Road, Lakhsmi Pura, Guru Arjun Dev Nagar, BSNL Office, Post Office and others.

During the inspections done on directions of the Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurinder Kaur Chawla and Dr. Satish Kumar, the team visited 586 houses, inspected 742 waste containers, 16 tyres and 239 air coolers. The team detected dengue larva at 32 places, including six at Gandhi Camp, two at Garha, four at Basti Danishmanda, five at Surajganj, four at new Santokhpura, two at salempura Musalmaana, two at Katera Mohalla, four at Lakshmipura, two at Guru Arjun Dev Nagar, one at BSNL Office and Post office. All the larvas were found in air coolers.  

The team also held interaction with the people and made them aware that these places could act as a breeding ground for the mosquitoes to spread diseases like dengue, malaria and others. They told that the drive was aimed at identifying vulnerable places for producing the larva of mosquitoes. They said that the special inspection was a part of the drive under ‘Tandarust Punjab’ mission to ensure that vector borne diseases were checked well in advanced.
