Capt Amarinder should immediately convene a special Vidhan Sabha session on issue of water share: Kultar Sandhwan

CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has given an advisory to Haryana government over the share of river waters, stating that  the state should forget about the Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal (SYL) and start mulling over the Yamuna-Sharda link as an alternative.

In a joint statement on Friday, state core committee chief principal Budhram and president, Punjab  Kisan Wing and MLA, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, said that the issue of water share had surfaced yet again ahead of the  assembly elections in Haryana pursuiant to the apex court’s fresh order on the issue, stating  Punjab had little hope of justice from the successive government at the centre.

Principal Budham and Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that in view of the new development, the real face of the Akali Dal (Badal), an alliance partner of the Modi-led government at the centre stood exposed. They said that they (the Badals) were restricted to harping on the old tune when it came to Punjab’s water share and its claim on Chandigarh among other issues.

They AAP leaders said that if the Badals could not arm twist their alliance partners to protect the interests of the state, including the long-pending water share, there was no point in Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s continuing with the Modi's cabinet and that she should immediately pull out of it.

The AAP leaders said that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had forgotten about his commitment to members in the House to convene an all-party meeting on the serious water crisis pending for a pretty long time now. They demanded that Captain should immediately convene a special session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha on this issue to hammer out a lasting solution to it.

The AAP leader demanded that without taking any further decision on the water share, its share may be protected and allotted to the state under the Iradi Commission agreement dated August 15, 1986.
