Health department holds training workshop on rotavirus vaccination

JALANDHAR- The district health and family welfare department on Monday organized a training workshop on rotavirus vaccination for the urban medical officers, block extension educators, ANMs and ASHAs in Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Memorial Government Nursing School in Civil Hospital.

Presiding over the training workshop, the Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Kaur Chawla said that under Universal Immunization Program (UIP), five drops of the rotavirus vaccination will be administrated to children below the age of 5. She said that rotavirus is the main cause behind 40 percent diarrhoea cases and vaccination will help to eliminate the diarrhoea among the children.

Dr Chawala said that under the Universal Immunization Program, the five drops of rotavirus vaccine will be administrated to the children in sixth, tenth and fourteenth week of their births along with regular vaccination.
She asked the officials to make the people aware about the rotavirus vaccine during Mamta Diwas and in other camps.

 

Civil Surgeon said that the rotavirus vaccination program will be started in August and the health department will leave no stone unturned to make it a huge success in the district.

District Immunization Officer Dr Tarsem Singh detailed the medical officers and others regarding vaccination program including how to administer the drops, maintenance of vaccine and keeping the record.

 On the occasion, Epidemiologist Dr Satish Kumar, Dr Anuradha, Dr Priyanka and others were available.
