DC appeals devotees to avoid carrying polythene bags and thermocol to Mata Chintapurni Shrine during annual upcoming Saawan Ashtami fair from August 1-9

JALANDHAR: Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Kulwant Singh today exhorted the residents of the district to desist from carrying polythene bags and thermocol to Mata Chintapurni Shrine during annual upcoming Saawan Ashtami fair from August 1-9.

The Deputy Commissioner, who participated in the meeting for finalizing the arrangements of fair held at Bharwain with Deputy Commissioner Una Sandeep Kumar and other officers, said that a large number of devotees from Punjab in general and Jalandhar district in particular pay obeisance at this shrine for which Una administration has already made elaborate arrangements. He said that the Himachal Pradesh government has banned the polythene bags and thermocol in their state so the devotees should avoid taking this material during their visit. Kulwant Singh said that this material was very hazardous for human health as well as the environment.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that in order to curb the noise pollution, the Himachal Pradesh government has also banned the use of loudspeakers and DJ during the fair. He said that as the Himachal government has issued orders regarding a complete ban on these things, so the devotees must desist from it for avoiding any sort of inconvenience to them.

The Deputy Commissioner further appealed the people to refrain from using overloaded vehicles from visiting the fair. He said that due to overloading of vehicles there was always a possibility of a mishap in the hilly terrain, which should be avoided. Kulwant Singh said that Una administration has already made it very clear that they would not allow any overloaded vehicle to ply in their jurisdiction and stern action would be taken against the violators. He said that in such scenario travelling through overloaded vehicles must be avoided.
