MOHALI: Putting break on the mushrooming of the Pharmacy Colleges in the country and taking into consideration the availability of sufficient qualified pharmacist workforce, Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), New Delhi has unanimously decided to put ban of 5 years for opening a new Pharmacy College.

Education expert Dr. Anshu Kataria who also runs Aryans College of Pharmacy near Chandigarh while commenting on this decision said that PCI through its notification no. 14-56/2019-PCI has cited the reason that there are approximately 1985 D.Pharm and 1439 B.Pharm institutes in the country. The annual intake of students in these institutes is to 2,19,279 and this available work force is enough to meet the current pharmacist to population needs of the country.

Kataria further added that PCI should give exemption to those Colleges who have already bought land or applied for CLU for the opening new Pharmacy College before the date of this notification.
