No dearth of funds for overall development of Bathinda, says Brahm Mohindra

BATHINDA: Punjab Local Government, Parliamentary Affairs, elections and removal of grievances Minister Brahm Mohindra today said that there is no dearth of funds for the overall developmental works to be carried out in Bathinda.

The minister was in the city today to attend social functions and also held meetings with officials of the Municipal Corporation.

During an interaction with the media, he admitted that the process of draining out rainwater from low lying areas and execution of few projects was slow to some extent."But now I want to assure everyone that the flaws have been detected now and all problems will soon be resolved," the minister said.

Categorically mentioning the particular problems in the urban and rural areas of the district, the minister stated that he is made aware of all problems in different localities which will be resolved soon.

He pointed out that the huge pond near DAV College will soon be de-silted so that the maximum quantity of rainwater can be accumulated in it. "The contract between the state government and Triveni Company-- assigned the task of developing infrastructure of Water Supply and Sewerage and its Operation and Maintenance--will be reviewed and wherever lies the problem will be sorted out immediately," the minister said.

Replying to a query about the new projects, the minister revealed that the tender of Rs 48.53 crore has already been invited by the Sewerage Board under AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) Scheme. "Under this scheme augmentation of sewerage will be done by setting up new pumps and new rising mains will be installed," he said.

The minister also stated that the rising main which is being constructed with 1200 mm (with 4 feet diameter) to enhance the capacity of the existing sewerage of the city is going on at a satisfactory pace.

Answering a question related to the houses damaged in recent rains he replied that the officials have already been assigned the task of conducting girdawri after which monetary benefits would be offered to them.  

He also announced that all the senior officials of the MCB (Municipal Corporation Bathinda) will soon be called at Chandigarh wherein one to one interaction will be done with the officers at the headquarter to chalk out strategies for immediate execution of the existing projects and starting new works.   

Later the minister also conducted a meeting to review all the major works related to the MCB.

Among others who were present during the minister's visit included Deputy Commissioner B. Srinivasan, SSP Nanak Singh, Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill, Congress Urban president Arun Wadhavan, Congress leader Anil Bhola and others. 

During his visit to the office of Municipal Corporation, the Minister was welcomed by Mayor Balwant Rai Nath who also submitted a charter of demands to which the minister stated that all the demands or areas residents would be fulfilled very soon.
