Nawanshahr and Balachaur put on high alert in the wake of excess Water Realease to Sutluj River

DC Asks SDM Nawanshahr and Balachaur To Evacuate Residents of 67 Villages to safer Places

 
NAWANSHAHR:
To ensure the safety of residents of 67 villages adjoining to Dhussi Bandh of Satluj river in wake of the release of excess water from Ropar Headworks, the Deputy Commissioner SBS Nagar Vinay Bublani has asked the SDMs of Nawanshahr and Balachuar to get evacuate the residents to safer places.  In Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Nawanshahr has 41 low lying and flood prone villages while Balachaur 26.

Deputy Commissioner accompanied by SSP Alka Meena while reviewing the situation of the Dhussi Bandh at Tajowal Mandhala in Nawanshahr and Bela Tajowal in Balachaur, directed the concerned SDMs to get expidite the strengthening of these two points that shown erosion due to continuous heavy rain and flow of excess water.

 

Local MLAs Aangad Singh Nawanshahar and Ch. Darshan Lal Mangupur who were taking stock of Dhussi Bandh in the wake of swollen river, asked the deputy commissioner to complete the work of strengthening as early as possible so that flow of excess water could not breach the Dhussi Bandh. Deputy Commissioner assured both the MLAs that apart from Drainage department, Revenue, Forest and panchayat Departments had also been put on job to repair the bandh.

Deputy Commissioner Vinay Bublani said that district administration has called the army and NDRF teams to save the residents from the fury of floods. Though till now, there is no overflow or leakage of river water but we are ready to handle the situation by put army personnel or NDRF teams immediately. Army and NDRF teams would be deployed at Nawanshahr and Balachaur, both stations, he added.

 

SSP Alka Meena added that SP (H) Harish Dayama would keep liaison with army and NDRF from police side and would ensure to lead them to the rescue points in case of emergent situation promptly. Besides, police patrolling has already been ordered to monitor the Dhussi bandh. 

Deputy Commissioner further told that District Education officer has been asked to open the nearby schools as relief camps while divers, boats, tents, fodder for animals, ration for civilians, medical and veterinary teams have been put on alert.

Nawanshahr Sub division includes Pandrawal Nangal jattan, Burj Tehal Dass, Phambra, Begowal, Kharkuwal, Julah Majra, Tajpur, Khoja, Mirjapur, Talwandi Sibbu, Daryapur, Bairsal, lalewal, Mahadipur kalan, Mahadipur Khurd, Mandhala, Mehandipur, Saidpur Kalan/Saidpur Khurd, Niamatpur, Shekha Majara, Garhi fateh Khan, Udhowal, Ratnana, Thathiala, Husainpur, Sultanpur, Neelowal, Dilawarpur, Behloor kalan, Nangal Chhanga, Phool Makauri, Chakli Sujait, Sbalpur, Tajowal, Alowal, Dhaingadpur, Malikpur, Jhungian, Behloor Khurd, Chak Illahi Baksh as flood pron area.

In balachaur Sub Division, ADB Rail, ADB Bela Tajowal, Bela Tajowal, Aima, Chahal, Kuhar, Bhedia, Ghudka, Hasanpur Kalan, Hasanpur Khurd, Mander, Dhubhali, ADB paragpur, paragpur, Mubarkpur, Srangpur Panj Peda, Hedon, Bhaipur, Thathiala Bet, Dugri, Nanowal, Auliapur, Khoja Bet, Niana and Banga Bet are low lying and flood prone villages that are put on alert.

He appeals the residents near to Dhussi bandh to go to safer places immediately as the excess water released from Ropar head works takes minimum six hours to reach Nawanshahr. District Administration has also flashed flood control numbers, in case of any help as 01823-505824, 01823-222426 and 01823-220016 at Nawanshahr and 01885-220075 at Balachaur.

Later on, Army personnel reached at Nawanshahr and started to plan the action by visiting Dhussi Bandh with SDM Nawanshahr Dr. Veneet kumar, Tehsildar Aditya Gupta and Naib Tehsildar Kulwant Singh.
