MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary Visits Villages Situated Near River Sutlej, Asks People To Stay Vigilant.

Assures residents that the administration is prepared to deal with the situation

Precautionary measures taken; food and shelter arrangements have been made

 PHILLAUR:  Member of Parliament from Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency Santokh Singh Chaudhary along with Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary General Secretary Punjab Congress today visited sensitive villages of Phillaur assembly constitunecy such as Chhole Bazaar, Mau Sahib, Gandhi Dham, Jhandi Peer,Kadiana near the Sutlej river to take stock of the situation arising out of the release of excess water from Bhakra dam. With water being released continuously from the dam after heavy rains filled its reservoir, Punjab Government has sounded an alert and asked the administration to take all the measures to deal with the situation.

 

Accompanied by General Secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, Jalandhar ADC Jasbir Singh, SDM Phillaur Rajesh Sharma and Tehsildar Tapan Bhanot, MP Chaudhary inspected the water level in the river and surrounding areas. They met several residents and took their feedback on the situation.

 

Speaking to the media during there visit, Chaudhary’s asked the residents of the area not to panic and assured them that the Government is monitoring the situation round the clock. “The district administration is taking all precautionary steps to tackle flood like situation”. The arrangement for boats, supplies, tents, medicines etc has been made. In case the people and animals need to be evacuated, the administration has made arrangements for food and shelter he said.

 

MP Chaudhary further informed that the administration has identified 81 villages in the district, which may be affected by the flood. 63 villages are in Shahkot sub-division, 13 in Phillaur sub-division and 05 in Nakodar sub-division. He asked the people to stay vigilant. 

“We request the people to support the administration in its efforts to manage and control the situation and follow all the instructions and advisories issued by them,” said the Congress leaders.
