Six persons rescued by joint team of Army, Administration and Police in Mehatpur village

Jalandhar: A joint team of Army,  Jalandhar district administration and Rural police on Monday rescued six persons in the flood-hit village Dharme Diya Channa and nearby areas in Mehatpur. 

The rescue operation was being carried out under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr Kulwant Singh and Nakodar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mr Amit Kumar Panchal.

Divulging the details, Mr Kulwant Singh said that 42 expert swimmers and divers of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) were stationed in Nakodar sub-division due to the release of 2,23,746 cusec of water from the Ropar Headwork on Sunday. 

He said that on Monday morning, the team got the information about the persons stranded due to rise in water level and the team immediately pressed into the service and successfully rescue them. 

ADC (Development) said that rescue centres have already been established for evacuees in Sub Division where requisite provisions of food and shelter have been made.  He also added that the medical teams have been deployed at all the centres for the treatment of the evacuees.

He said the district administration is committed to helping each evacuee and villagers in this hour of crisis.
