Sutlej floods Phillaur,Shahkot sub division villages

BILGA/LOHIAN KHAS: The water of flooded Sutlej breached Dhusi Bandh at more than three places in between Meonwal-Alowal villages on early Monday after the flood gates Bhakhra Dam were open. Heavy rains in the catchment area in Himachal Pradesh set the river at spade.

Breaches occurred at places being used by sand mafia to transport illegal sand.

The water entered agricultural fields damaging standing crops in Meowal, Hari Pur, Burj Hassan, Alowal, Mao Sahib, Ladharr Kalan, Kadian, Bhullar, Burj Kela and Poadharra villages. 

Several families had to be evacuated through boats.

Jalandhar deputy commissioner V.K.Sharma and SSP (rural) N.S.Mahal visited some of the affected villages to take stock of the situation .Teams of National Disaster Response Force were dealing with an emergency. Relief camps have been established for effected people. 

Lohian police station munshi told the Punjabtribune.com that flooded Sutlej breached Dhusi Bandh at Mandala –Jania village about 3 P.M and flood water entered agricultural fields in Chak Wadala and Jania villages.
