MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary leads the rescue operation in flood affected area of Phillaur

Accompanies Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary and district administration to personally evacuate people from the flood-affected villages

Monitors the specially installed Relief Camps in the area

 

PHILLAUR: Member of Parliament (MP) Santokh Singh Chaudhary accompanied by Punjab Congress General Secretary Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary led the rescue operation team comprising Commissioner Jalandhar Division Mr B Purusartha, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navjot Singh Mahal, ADC Jasbir Singh and jawans of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), SDRF rode the rescue boats to evacuate people from the flood-affected areas.

There was breach noticed in 11.20.31.32 Burji, due to which several villages of Phillaur subdued under the water and MP Chaudhary swung into action since morning and led the entire rescue operation.

Renowned environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal is helping the district administration in the rescue operation, which was lauded by the MP himself.

“As soon as the breach was noticed, two lakhs bags of sand were immediately arranged to plug the gap, apart from the initiation of the continued rescue operation,” MP said revealing that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has already sanctioned an amount of Rs 100 crore for the flood-hit area of Punjab.

Motipur Khalsa, Meowal, Nawa Khera village was the most affected village due to flood and a total area of 11000 acre of 31 villages of Phillaur Sub-Division was badly affected due to flood and some parts of Nakodar and Nurmahal area too was affected, MP said. 

 

Later in the day, MP rushed to Shahkot area, where several villages were hit by the flood.

In order to tackle any sort of urgency arising out of the swollen Satluj river, MP instructed the district administration for the positioning of NDRF, Army at Phillaur.
