Expensive electricity: AAP holds rally, protest march

AAP demands immediate scrapping of anti-state PPAs

MANSA: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday held district-level protest rally and protest march under the leadership of Punjab party chief and parliamentarian Bhagwant Mann, in continuation of the ongoing 'Bijli Morcha' against the high power tariff in Punjab.

The protest rally was organised at the old Grain Market which was attended by, among others, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema, Core Committee Chairman and MLA, Principal Budh Ram, Prof. Baljinder Kaur (MLA), Core Committee Members Garry Barring, state media in charge, Manjit Singh Sidhu, Advisor to LoP, Navdeep Singh Sangha, youth leader, Sandeep Singla,

District President, Jaspal Singh Datewas, halqa president (Maur) Sukhbir Misarkhana, Bhola Mann, Sardulgarh, Dr Vijay Singla, Parminder Kaur Samag, Gurpreet Singh Bhuchar, Ranjit Singh Ralla, Amrit Agarwal, Satish Singla, Harjinder Dialpura and Harvinder Singh Sekhon and district leaders and a large number of party activists.

Mann further said that during the 10-year long ‘mafia raj’ in the state, Sukhbir Singh Badal under a deep-rooted conspiracy had managed to shake hands with private thermal plant players and inked expensive electricity contracts (PPOs) with them by shutting down government thermal plants, leaving the people in the state pay high power tariff, saying that Punjab  generated electricity on its own, while Kejriwal government in Delhi had been providing cheapest electricity to its people after buying it from private companies.

He further said that if the Captain Amarinder Singh government had initiated measures to call off these expensive agreements with private thermal plants, a promise of scrapping the anti-people agreements it had peddled before assuming power, people would not have to pay hefty power bills through their noses, stating the Captain Amarinder Singh government had to pay a heavy price for its generosity over the Badals.

Taking  a pot shot at Captain Amarinder Singh, Mann said that people of the state had seen both the Badals and Captain play a friendly match for decades staying loyal to each other. Mann called upon the people of Punjab who, he said, had seen both Captain-Badals, to overthrows them in the 2022 verdict and give an opportunity to the  trusted and tested AAP candidate who were fighting their rights.

Principal Budharam and Harpal Singh Cheema also addressed the occasion and demanded immediate cancellation of the power agreements thereby making the people of the state heave a sigh of relief.
