Pak based Writer Tahmina Aziz Visits Khalsa College, Impressed with Architectural Heritage

Amritsar: Tahmina Aziz Ayub, an acclaimed writer from Pakistan today visited historic Khalsa College and was impressed by its architectural heritage. An educationist, she said she was highly impressed with the glorious history of the Sikhs and Punjab and see the similarities between Pakistan and Indian culture immensely in this part of the region.
 
She had the walk through the corridors of the campus and interacted with the faculty and students. She said she recalled her own College days in Karachi, Islamabad and often deliver lectures in various educational institutions across the world.
 
Lovingly called Poonam by family and friends, Ayub has recently released her book The Begum: A Portrait of Raana Liaquat Ali Khan, co-authored with Indian writer Deepa Agarwal here. ``I have written on the subject of politics and socio-economic issues in Pakistan”, said she adding she wanted to have glimpses of the College.
 
A woman of substance as she is described, she has written over 20 books. She had her early education in Karachi and Rawalpindi and did her graduation from FG College, Islamabad. When her family moved to Rome where her father joined the UN Headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), she opted to pursue her Masters in Islamabad and joined the Quaid-e-Azam University.
 
A master in Anthropology, she also had a post-graduate research degree in Women and Development, at the University of Sussex, UK. ''The women emancipation in South Asia needed more focus for the overall development of the society”, she said.
