JALANDHAR A state level function was organized to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Saragarhi, under the aegis of Golden Arrow Division, Ferozepur on 12 September. The management of Saragarhi Gurudwara is with the Golden Arrow Division, since June 2017. The function was attended by Balbir Singh Sidhu,  Health and Family Welfare Minister, Govt of Punjab  (Chief Guest) and Major General Amit Loomba, General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow Division, (Chairman, Saragarhi Gurudwara Management Committee), and several other dignitaries including Ex-servicemen and War Widows.


          The event paid an ode to the valiant soldiers of 36 SIKH BATTALION, who had displayed exemplary courage, bravery, sacrificed their lives and became immortal on this day in 1897.  Tributes were paid to the Martyrs of Saragarhi, who fought gallantly for almost seven hours, before all 22 soldiers breathed their last. They upheld the highest traditions of the Indian Army.  Army had put up various camps / booths to assist the Ex Servicemen and Veer Naris attending the function.  Several stalls were put up by the Government departments as well. 


          The event culminated with felicitation of Ex-servicemen and War Widows.  In his address to the gathering, the Major General Amit Loomba exhorted everyone to emulate the example of valiant soldiers of 36th SIKH BATTALION who battled against 10,000 tribals, against all odds, and embraced death over dishonour.
