Sikh Institutions form Management Committee to Safeguard The legacy of Bhai Sant Singh

Punjab Tribune Bureau | September 13, 2019 07:29 PM
JALANDHAR: On 13 May 1893, Sardar Sant Singh bequeathed all his assets to the tenth Master, Shri Guru Gobind Singh, to be utilised for the service of the community with focus on education. The philanthropist registered an iron clad Tamliknama, spelling out the need for the premier-most institutions of the time to play the role of custodians to his donated legacy.  He noted that since the tenth Guru was  not in his physical form, Khalsa College Amritsar shall be the torchbearer of his cause, in tandem with Shri Guru Singh Sabha, through the formation of a committee comprised of members drawn from these organisations.

It was also specifically mentioned that in case these two institutions cease to exist the Deputy Commissioner of the day shall vest the guardianship of the SSSS institutions to Shri Darbar Sahib for furthering the cause enshrined in his Tamliknama.

Lately a 12-member Management Committee for Sant Singh Sukha Singh educational Institutions was constituted in keeping with the will of Bhai Sant Singh.  This committee in its meeting today, held under the Presidentship of Swinder Singh Kathunangal, resolved that they would make every effort to protect and implement the Tamliknama of philanthropist Bhai  Sant Singh and the assets vested in the name of Tenth Sikh Master Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1893.

The other members of the Committee who took part in the meeting today included Nirmal Singh, Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Bhagwantpal Singh Sachar, Surinder Singh Rumalewale, Ajmer Singh Heir, Avtar Singh, Jaspal Singh and Tarundeep Singh Ghuman.

The Khalsa College was given the same right and title in the property as Bhai Sant Singh had. It was specifically mentioned in the said Tamliknama that the management of the property with its income and expenditure shall be the responsibility of a duly formed Committee and that the accounts of receipts and expenditure of the said property shall annually be prepared by the said members and regularly submitted to the Khalsa College Council.

``The attention of this Committee has now been drawn to the unlawful sale of the lands and properties. This is against the spirit of the Tamliknama of Bhai Sant Singh Ji. It is our earnest duty and responsibility that this ethically constituted Committee, with six members each from Shri Guru Singh Sabha and Khalsa College, to protect his legacy and oversee the wellbeing of the Sant Singh Sukha Singh institutions”, said Gunbir Singh, the officiating Hon. Sec appointed by this committee.

He added that the motive of the philanthropist was the welfare of the society at large, which has got diluted with the passage of time, and it is a conjoined will of the Sikh institutions, duly addressed by Bhai Sant Singh ji, that the his legacy and the assets in the name of Shri Guru Gobind Singh sahib be safeguarded.

In the meeting the resolutions to implement the Tamliknama was passed unanimously today, and a commitment to end the family rule and vested interests resolved.
