SIT to investigate Dr. Ambedkar statue vandalization incident: SC commission

SIT will complete investigation within month

 CHANDIGARH: The Punjab police have constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the directions of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission to expedite the investigation into Dr. B.R. Ambedkar vandalization incident at Rajpura.

Disclosing this here today, Tejinder Kaur Chairperson of Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission said that Senior Superintendent of Police Patiala has submitted preliminary report into the matter today. She said that as per the findings of the report, the statue had been damaged with brick by unknown persons. She informed that police have taken finger prints from the incident site besides collecting a dump of mobile phones.

The Chairperson further said, the report reads that defaced statue is being replaced with the new one.  assured that accused will be detained soon as the SIT has been given one month to investigate the matter. She said that stringent legal action will be taken against the culprits.
