Strong Plea to Commemorate 30th September I.C Nanda’s Birthday as Punjabi Theatre Day

JALANDHAR: In their efforts to promote Punjabi theatre legacy of Prof. I.C Nanda, National theatre arts Society (NTAS) Patiala urged the artists, Punjabi lovers, govt & N.G.Os, universities, NZCC, departments of languages & cultural affairs to commemorate 30th September as Punjabi Theatre Day to mark the 127TH birth anniversary of legendary theatre personality Prof. I.C Nanda.

Addressing the congregation of theatre activists, radio drama artists, assembled at Akashvani kendar jalandhar, noted theatre-radio drama personality NTAS director Pran Sabharwal, having 67 year continuous association with Radio drama, disclosed that Prof. I.C Nanda, pioneer of modern Punjabi drama had laid the foundation of modern Punjabi theatre movement with his mentor madam Norah Richards, better known as mother of Punjabi drama in April 1914 at Dayal Singh Collage Lahore. Remembering Nanda by organizing Punjabi theatre, programmes, seminar would be a true tribute to the great soul, he said.

On this occasion, NTAS director Pran Sabharwal, Senior Vice President Rajinder Verma, theatre-radio drama artist honored stalwarts of drama Paramjit Singh Programme executive A.I.R Jalandhar & Vinod Dhir Radio drama expert and retd. Station Director A.I.R in the presence of representative theatre, radio drama artists, assembled from distance places including Jalandhar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Barnala and Mohali.

Sabharwal said that honor was bestowed on both the stalwarts in view of their outstanding contribution towards Punjabi Language, theatre and Radio drama, especially for strengthening ties between theatre-radio drama and bringing laurels to A.I.R in India. The stalwarts expressing gratitude for the gesture of honor and love, said that they were committed to promote Punjabi language, theatre and radio drama.
