Aggrieved farmers of flood affected villages in Jalandhar to get around 9000 quintals of HYV of wheat seeds free of cost

Punjab government extends a helping hand to farmers of the flood affected villages

 JALANDHAR: In a major initiative aimed at providing succor to the farmers of flood affected villages in the district, the Punjab government would distribute around 9000 quintals of high yielding varieties of wheat seeds to the food growers, free of cost. 

Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma said that this decision has been taken by the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh extend a helping hand to the farmers so that they could sow the crop during the upcoming Rabi season. He said that in total around 25,000 quintals of wheat seeds would be supplied to farmers in flood affected villages across the state. Sharma said that out of this nearly 9000 quintals of seeds would be distributed to the farmers who have suffered losses during the floods in river Satluj. 

The Deputy Commissioner said that the basic motive was to extend a helping hand to the farmers in this hour of crisis. Sharma said that the state government was fully sensitive towards the plight of the farmers in the marooned villages and every sort of help would be extended to them. He said that the farmers would be distributed seeds as per their loss ascertained in special girdawari conducted by the Revenue Officers. “Necessary directions have been passed on to the agriculture department for ensuring this relief to the farmers in a time bound manner”, he added.

Meanwhile, the Chief Agriculture Officer of Jalandhar Dr. Naazar Singh said that 9000 quintals of wheat seed was expected to reach Jalandhar in the coming week. He said that special teams have been constituted for ensuring early distribution of these seeds so that farmers do not face any sort of inconvenience.
