Agriculture Department to Give 7700 Quintal wheat seeds on subsidy- Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar

JALANDHAR: The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department would give 7700-quintal wheat seed on the subsidy to Jalandhar farmers for wheat season 2019-20. 

Divulging the information, the deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the amount of subsidy of Rs 1000 per quintal would be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the farmers.

He informed that the subsidy would be offered maximum for the five-acre piece of land. He added that the total area under wheat is 1.70 Lakh hectares, about 7700 quintals of wheat seed as per target fixed is being distributed to small and marginal farmers of the district. 

He added that verification of the small and marginal farmers would be conducted through the database is being done through village Sarpanch

The deputy commissioner clarified that ineligible farmer would not be considered at any cost and clear instructions have been issued to the department in this regard. 

He appealed the farmers to the department’s district and block level offices to get the seeds under the scheme. 

Sharma directed agriculture officials to keep a close watch on the sale of seeds to ensure the farmers could get certified and quality seeds. 

Meanwhile, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Nazar Singh said that the department has been sensitizing the farmers to sow the wheat seed after treatment with chlorpyrifos and Raxil as this will safeguard the crop from termites and various diseases. 

Further, he said that farmers are being motivated to use happy seeder, Superseeder, roto seed drill etc for sowing after treatment and department is also holding awareness seminars in this regard.
