Seven arrested for assaulting Sarpanch

NAKODAR The Mehat Pur police on Sunday arrested seven persons on the charge of assaulting a village sarpanch.

Investigating Officer (IO) Sarabjit Singh said that the accused have been identified as Malkit Singh ,his brothers Jagir Singh and Rannjit Singh ,Maan Singh,Jogindar Singh,Jaranail Singh and Jagdish Singh all residents of Gaunsuwal village

Kulwant Singh sarpanch of the same village had complained to the police that the accused barged into his house on October 27 and attacked him with sharp edged weapons, used abusive language against him and ransacked house.

He had said that the accused had fought panchayat election against him and attacked him in revenge.

IO said that a case under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).452(house trespass), 506(criminal intimidation) 427(mischief), 148and 149(rioting) of the IPC  was registered against the accused adding that Gurmej Kaur wife of Jagir Singh and Gurjant Singh residents of Gaunsuwal village were arrested earlier in this case .
