Entire piece of land should be given for Guru Ravidas temple: MP Chaudhary

NEW DELHI: Member of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary today urged the Central Government to honour the sentiments of followers of Guru Ravidas ji and start construction of the demolished temple in Tughlakabad area of Delhi at the earliest. It is believed that Ravidas ji had visited this place during the reign of Sikandar Lodi.

Raising the matter in Lok Sabha during Zero Hour on the first day of Winter Session of Parliament, MP Chaudhary said that Guru Ravidas ji was a great saint of India, who worked towards eradication of casteism and promotion of social equality among all human beings. His hymns are also included in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

MP Chaudhary informed the House that Saint Ravidas temple situated in Tughlakabad was demolished by Delhi Development Authority on August 10, 2019. This act hurt the sentiments of the followers and had led to a large number of protests across the country. It is pertinent to mention that he had visited the temple earlier this year before it was demolished.

Later, on a petition filed by former Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar and former Minister Pradeep Jain, the Supreme Court ordered that the temple be rebuilt.

Chaudhary Santokh Singh expressed dissatisfaction with Central Government’s offer of 400 square meters of land and demanded that entire piece of land measuring about twelve thousand square yards be given for construction of a grand temple. “The government is honouring the sentiments of followers of Shri Ram and facilitating the construction of a Ram Mandir in Ayodhaya. Similarly, the feelings of Ravidas ji’s devotees should be respected and the temple should be built at the earliest,” he added.
