Farmers appealed to bring Paddy in Mandis by November 30

Nawanshahr: In wake of declining paddy arrivals in the mandis, the paddy procurement period has been modified and now it would be culminated by November 30.

  Divulging the details, DFSC Rajnish Kaur said that earlier the paddy procurement during Kharif Marketing Season 2019-20 was slated for October 1 to December 15, 2019 but now as per the orders of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Punjab Mr. Bharat Bhushan Ashu, it has been altered and the paddy procurement period would now culminate on November 30. However, the milling period to remain the same and Ministry of Food, Government of India has given due approval to the revision, she added.

Most of the paddy has been arrived in the district mandis as the procurement figures touched to 363024 MT so far, she further added. For the last few days, significant decrease has been recorded in the arrival of paddy in mandis. As per the 72 hours norm, 99 percent lifting of the purchased paddy has been achieved and payments worth Rs. 638.83  crore have been transferred to the accounts of arthiyas/farmers by the government, she informed.

Reiterating the commitment of State Government to purchase the every grain in the market, the DFSC made an appeal to the farmers to bring their crop in the grain markets by November 30 so that they may avail the benefit of Minimum Support Price (MSP). She also urged the arthiyas of district to inform about the revision in procurement period to the farmers associated with them.

Pertinently, till November 20, PUNGRAIN has procured 121162 MTs, MARKFED 90154 MT and PUNSUP 89871 MT of paddy while Punjab State Warehousing Corporation procured 38521 MT paddy in SBS Nagar Mandis. The Centre government agency FCI has procured 10850 MT paddy from the district mandis.
