World’s copd day 2019, let us all we altogather to end copd’

JALANDHAR: On the Occasion of WORLD’S COPD DAY, Dr H.J.Singh , an eminent Chest Physician ,Interventional Pulmonologist  and State Chairman of Indian Chest Society for Punjab State who recently returned from USA after attending conference of AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CHEST PHYSICIAN while addressing the Press, stated that Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is fourth major cause of death world wide and out of all deaths globally ,near about 20%  are the Indian who died of COPD.  According to an estimate around 15 million of people are suffering from this disease. COPD  which is prevalent through out the world in large population including, old age men and women .Keeping in view the severity of the disease, WORLD COPD DAY is celebrated so that people be aware of it that it is within reach to prevent and manage  at any stage before or after COPD if diagnosed properly.       

Dr.Singh said that sputum  production , Shortness of breath , Hemoptysis and productive cough are the main symptoms of COPD.  Pollution from indoor fire,  Occupational  exposures , Smoking and Smog are the common cause of COPD Dust particles in the air effect not only the lungs but other parts of the body also.  In COPD , the patient feel  breathless because of EMPHYSEMA . Dr.Singh told that no doubt COPD is not curable  but as and when any symptom is seen , SPIROMETERY TEST for checking lungs efficiency should be done immediately and inhaler is most effective as it directly reach to the lungs as compared to tablet/syrup.  So he emphasized that pollution control is must by stopping CROP BURNING , CUTTING TREES, SMOKING in public places using coal/woods in houses etc.  Changing whether is also more dangerous for COPD patients and a little carelessness can be proved   harmful. Hence either we should avoid morning walk or use mask to protect polluted air effect.  Generally people do not take the symptoms of COPD seriously  which  later on put them in  a critical condition. Symptom of ASTHMA and COPD are almost the same so it is necessary to  diagnose properly.

 

To educate & check up the patients of COPD .free check up camp organized at Ranjit Hospital Patel Chowk Jalandhar by the Chairman Punjab Chapter of Indian Chest Society on 20th November 2019  and 50 to 60 patients avail this opportunity. Dr Singh said that clear communication and pollution control is the key to compliance in control of COPD.
