JALANDHAR: It is the condition of our environment which will decide our long term survival on Earth, said Member of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary today after inaugurating an open gym and a newly developed park in Mota Singh Nagar, Jalandhar. The Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Park has been developed at a cost of Rs 6.50 lakh.

Speaking on this occasion, MP Chaudhary urged the public to keep their surroundings clean and reduce the generation of waste. He also requested them to segregate the waste generated at their houses so that it can be easily managed by the municipal authorities.

“We should follow the path laid down by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the shloka pavan guru paani pita maata dharat mahat. Let’s take a vow to protect the gifts nature has given us because only then we will be able to live peacefully on this earth,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Government of Punjab had launched a plantation drive to plant 550 saplings in every village of the state to mark 550th Parkash Purab celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

Later, Chaudhary Santokh Singh presided over a pendu khed mela (rural sports festival) in village Dalli, Bhogpur. The Punjab Government has built a beautiful stadium in the village at a cost of Rs 23 lakh with facilities for athletics, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi etc.

Addressing the players and spectators, he stated that the Captain Amarinder Singh Government is single-mindedly focused on bringing back and promoting the culture of sports in every village. “We want everyone to play a sport and are encouraging youth to compete at national and international level. For this, the government has significantly increased the prize money for medal winners under the new sports policy,” he added.

For further development of the stadium, Chaudhary Santokh Singh announced a grant of Rs six lakh from his MPLAD fund. Out of this grant, Rs 4.5 lakh will be spent for building a roof over the stage and Rs 1.5 lakh is earmarked for constructing an open gym.

Prominent among the present on these occasions were Manmohan Singh MC, Surinder Agarwal, Kamaljit Singh Lally Ex MLA, Congress Block President Parminder Singh Malhi, and Chairman Satnam Singh Kohja,
