SAS Nagar: Adhering to the instructions of Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar Girish Dayalan to ensure cleanliness in cities of the district and sensitization about segregation of domestic waste, the Municipal Council Kharar has taken initiative to give free organic compost to the person, who will show selfie with segregated domestic waste in dry and wet dustbins.

Giving more details, Girish Dayalan said that in order to spread awareness of sanitation and solid waste management among Kharar residents, the Municipal Council has initiated unique approach. Under which, residents could get free organic compost prepared by MC Kharar for their gardens. "The only condition to get free compost is, you have to show your selfie with your two separate household dustbins kept for segregation of wet and dry waste", he said.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that from today onwards, residents can show their selfie at compost shed (opposite MC Park) and get free compost as per their requirement", he said, adding that this week long campaign would start from December 10.

Municipal Council Executive Officer Kulbir Singh Brar said this campaign has been started with the focus of implementing government directions and solid waste management rules-2016, whereby residents are being motivated to adopt the habit of keeping wet and dry waste separate in two dustbins. Meanwhile, Council President Anju Chander appealed to the residents that mixed garbage shouldn’t be thrown indiscriminately rather it is a valuable resource if kept separately and city is processing wet waste using modern machines to convert into organic waste. She also urged that Kharar residents should take part with maximum zeal and interest in this campaign.
