JALANDHAR: Member of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary visited Dera Sachkhand, Ballan and paid obeisance to Guru Ravidas ji on the occasion of Makar Sankranti today. Sitting along with huge number of followers in the dera premises, he listened to shabd kirtan and sermons from gurbani.

After the visit, MP Chaudhary spoke about his long association with the dera. He emphasized that the teachings of Guru Ravidas ji are of universal importance and even more relevant today. “It is a historic dera which has been working to strengthen the spiritual and social fabric. Under Sant Niranjan Das ji, it has contributed immensely in propagating the message and bani of Guru Ravidas. Lakhs of followers have benefited from Dera Sachkhand in India and abroad,” he said.

Congratulating the people on the occasion of Maghi, he stated that this day holds a special historical and religious significance in Sikhism. “This auspicious festival is a commemoration of the sacrifice of forty Sikhs, who had laid down their lives fighting for Guru Gobind Singh ji,” he stated.

The forty Sikhs had given bedawa to the Guru and deserted him, but later returned and fought the Mughal army led by Wazir Khan. On the request of Bhai Mahan Singh, Guru Gobind Singh forgave them, tore their bedawa and honoured them as 40 Muktas (the Forty Liberated Ones).

Chaudhary Santokh Singh further said that dashm patshah Guru Gobind Singh ji sacrificed his entire family to protect others and came to be known as sarbans daani, but today, minorities and marginalized sections are being ostracised in the country. “The government should follow the path shown by Guru Gobind Singh ji and protect the ideals of pluralism and secularism. It is time to fight social evils and work to strengthen fundamental rights as enshrined in the Constitution,” he added.
