Disbursement of funds under BharatNet project during 2016-17 to 2019-20

NAKODAR BharatNet is also known as Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), the World’s largest rural broadband project, is to provide broadband connectivity to all 2.5 lakhs Gram Panchayats (GPs) across India. BBNL is a telecom infrastructure provider, set up by the Government of India under the Administrative Ministry of Communication and IT, Department of Telecommunications for the establishment, management and operation of National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) to provide broadband connectivity with adequate bandwidth at affordable price to citizens and institutions in rural and remote areas, which will facilitate human development, boost economic development and improves quality of life of people in Rural India.

Funds of Rs. 5600 crore disbursed under BharatNet project in 2016-17. It has increased by 7.14% to Rs. 6000 crore during 2017-18 above 2016-17. In absolute value the increase of disbursement was Rs. 400 crore during 2017-18 against 2016-17’s disbursement. We have observed annual de-growth of -30.91% in disbursement of funds under BharatNet project during 2018-19 against 2017-18. In absolute term the decline was Rs. 1854.46 crore during 2018-19 in comparison to funds disbursed in 2017-18,the  Ministry of Panchayati Raj informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply which has been posted on website,data.gov.in.

It said that the amount of funds disbursed under BharatNet project was Rs. 6000 crore during 2019-20, up by 44.73% versus Rs. 4145.54 crore during 2018-19. In absolute value the increase of disbursement was Rs. 1854.46 crore during 2019-20 in comparison to 2018-19’s disbursement.
