GADVASU Ludhiana showed its interest in IKGPTU’s Human Value Education

Jalandhar/Kapurthala: I.K.Gujral Panjab Technical University initiated a course on Human Values & Professional Ethics in 2010 in its affiliated colleges and got remarkable response from all the different fields. In continuation to this, today, Guru Angad Dev Vetenary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana also showed its interest to start this subject for its faculty & students. GADVASU’s Vice Chancellor Dr. A.S.Nanda appreciated the initiative of IKG PTU and offered PTU to teach this subject in GADVASU. Vice Chancellor Dr. A.S. Nanda was addressing the 8 days workshop as Chief Guest at IKG PTU.

He said that negativity increases in human with time. He becomes aggressive. Human Values eliminate all these negative things. If these values become a part of student life, then life becomes successful.

The 8 days’ residential workshop on Universal Human Values & Ethics (UHVE) is being organized by IKG Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala at lnternational Resource Center for Universal Human Values & Ethics from 23rd -30th Dec 2016.  Around 70 teachers from affiliated colleges of the IKG PTU, Kapurthala are attending the workshop

Dr. Amanpreet Singh, Registrar, IKGPTU welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. A. S. Nanda,Vice Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Vetenary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana and Guest of Honor, S. Nirmaljit Singh, Ex DGM Punjab & Sindh Bank, all the officers, Faculties  of IKG PTU & Participants  participants.

Teachers from the host college shared their personal experiences while teaching this course to their students. Some students of IRC-UHVE also shared their experiences during this course. Dr. Jagmeet Singh shared that UHVE workshop is a platform for discussing a wide range of issues like Education, Reality, Happiness, Success, Aspirations and gaining an understanding on Our Nature, Relationships, Environment, Social Issues, and Self-Confidence.

Dr. S. S. Ahluwalia, Director, IRC-UHVE focused on the need of the Value Education in current education system. IKG PTU has been making efforts with the core idea that “the role of education is to facilitate the development of the competence to live with human conduct”; and through that, to “contribute to the making of an undivided humane society”. Ultimately, it is as an effort for universal human good in a universal, rational, secular, understandable and realizable manner through education that facilitates development of human conduct.

Dr. Ahluwalia also shared that today, more than 35 universities in 7 states of India, 2 universities in Bhutan, 3 universities in Pakistan and 1 university in Nepal are experimenting with this Universal Human Values approach.

The key note speaker of this workshop is Dr. Rakesh Maurya from IIT Ropar. He shared that this workshop primarily aim to evolve a concrete future plan for taking ‘Values’ & ‘Skills’ together and role of education for this purpose. The workshop will further seek to define the role of all stakeholders Viz. University, Colleges, Teachers and Students etc. 

This workshop is completely residential and the timings of this workshop is 9AM to 8 PM. Board of Governors of IKG PTU has initiated a sensitization project. In this project, all the faculties of the affiliated colleges will be sensitized on UHVE. For this, International Resource Center for Universal Human Values & Ethics (IRC-UHVE) need to conduct 3 and 8 days workshops for all the colleges. To cater to this, there is a need to prepare teachers of UHV who can develop themselves to conduct 3 days workshops of the teachers.
