NAKODAR Jalandhar deputy commissioner’s (DC) order banning movement of cattle in form of herds has become a piece of papers as members of Gujjar community are grazing their animals on roads, canals and other places without any fear.

DC Varindar Kumar Sharma in his order issued on September 6, 2018 had said that general public and social associations have brought into his notice that many people especially in rural areas roam around with herd of animals, Order said that this results in unwanted obstruction in traffic and cause accidents which causes human loss.

Order said these herds of animals destroy tree sampling plated on roads by forest department and also farmer’s crops. It says that these herds of animals also affect Swash Campaign launched by Prime Minister.

Order has banned movement of animals in herds in rural areas and authorized concerned authorities to take action against violators.

Recently the Phillaur police booked Maskeen Ali alias Bittu of Ganna Pind village for destroying 17000 plants after an inquiry by Phillaur Tehsildar.

Environmental experts said that when DC’s order has banned movement of animals in herds and authorized concerned authorities to take action against violators why inquiry was ordered in this case. They said no action has been taken against members of Gujjar community who are grazing their animals on roads, canals and other places without any fear.

Gurmit Singh a resident of Shadi Pur village told the Punjabtribune.com that about 150 tree saplings planted by panchayat have destroyed by animals and warning by panchayat have no affect on erring people.
