IKGPTU Board passed strict instructions to go cashless from January 1st, 2017

Chandigarh/Jalandhar/Kapurthala:The 64th Meeting of I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University Board of Governors (BOG) was held in Chandigarh today. Meeting was Chaired by Chief Secretary Govt. of Punjab IAS Sarvesh Kaushal as Chairman BOG. Chairman BOG IAS Sarvesh Kaushal passed the strict instructions to all the university authorities to comply with Prime Minister's vision of go cashless and by digital economy only. He instructed university authorities to issue instructions to all affiliated colleges as well as campuses and other stakeholders that each & every payment like salaries to manpower, facility etc through RTGS only and any type of fee deposition of students should be  through debit/credit cards only. Compliance is mandatory from 1st January 2017.

During the meeting, by following the provisions of it’s act, the board of governors of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, constituted a search committee for the appointment of Vice Chancellor. The members of this committee are additional Chief Secretary Technical Education Punjab, Dr. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, Vice Chancellor, Central University, Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Kailash Chandra Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and Industrialist Sh. Kamal Oswal, Nahar Group of Industries, Ludhiana. This search committee will give recommendation for the appointment of Vice Chancellor, IKGPTU. Although the advertisement in this regard has been already issued by Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of Punjab in July 2016.

Further he instructed university authorities to set a high level committee for the minute check of those colleges who have not updated their faculty yet as well as manpower, faculty data on their website.

To strengthen the University academics, board also approved the appointments 12 no. of faculty positions at the level of Professor and associate professor for University’s various academic departments. It is worth mentioning that University had advertised 27 number of faculty positions in different disciplines. The applications have been processed as per the laid down selection procedure and interviews were conducted from Oct.27 to Nov.04, 2016 by the duly constituted Selection Committees.

Vice Chancellor of the University IAS Rakesh Verma, who is also Secretary of Technical Education Department, Govt. of Punjab, put before the board that University is keen to introduce skill based courses to the existing students and unemployed youth to fulfill the growing need of India for skilled manpower across sectors and narrow the existing gap between demand and supply of skills. In addition to AICTE and Non-AICTE courses, IKGPTU shall offer various skill development courses as per the framework designed by National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) from the academic session 2017-18 and onwards. University will offer such courses at main campus, constituent colleges and its affiliated colleges as a part of National Skill Development Mission. 

Vice Chancellor IAS Rakesh Verma also apprised that as per the directions of the Board, University has approached two National agencies, National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and NAAC, for the accreditation of University’s institutes.

Apart from that, for the betterment of University academics and administrative work culture, board also made deliberations to set up College Development Council, to review Faculty Development Programmes and discussed draft policy on Placement & entrepreneurship.

The meeting was also attended by Prof. (Dr) Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, MRS Punjab Technical University, Bathinda; Dr.N.P. Singh, Dean P&D IKGPTU; Dr. Amanpreet Singh, registrar IKGPTU, Dr. Dharinder Tayal entrepreneur, Principal, BCET, Gurdaspur and other members.
