Delivery of fertilizers, seeds, chemicals to the farmers at door steps, petrol pumps to be opened from 6 to 12 noon, district administration offers conditional relief to the farmers

Farmers can work from 6 am to 9 pm in the fields, no restriction of the movement of combine harvesters, agriculture shops would be opened from 6 am to 9 am in the district.

 Faridkot: District agriculture and farmers welfare department Faridkot on Monday held a meeting of its officials chaired by its chief agriculture officer Harnek Singh Rode, to discuss the directions issued regarding  the services being provided to the farmers on the directions of District Magistrate Faridkot K.S Raj, who has offered the farmers conditional relief during the imposition of curfew in approaching harvesting and new sowing season for which the farmers need to buy the seeds of new crops including paddy, aromatic paddy, Maize and other crops etc.

“Now, from 30th March, all the wholesalers and dealers of the district would be bound to supply the farmers the seeds, insecticides and fertilizers at their door steps as per the demands of the farmers without charging any additional cost from the farmers. They can open the shops from 6 am to 9 am in the district for the purpose,” reads the press note issued by the public relations department of Faridkot.

“However, they must ensure the social distance of 2 meters while delivering these supplies to the farmers,” its says.

Besides it, the DM has also provided the farmers a relief of refilling fuel from the petrol pumps of the district from 6 am to 12 noon as per their need. The farmers can themselves go to the petrol pumps for this purpose in this regarding, ensuring mandatory social distance.

There is no restriction on the movement of the combine harvesters in the district as well during the harvesting season and farmers can work in their fields from 6 AM to 9 PM, the deadline before which they must reach home.

The custom hiring systems and other agriculture related outlets are also allowed to be opened from 6 AM to 9 AM to facilitate the farmers.

“We are always ready to serve the farmers in this regarding. If any farmer finds any kind of problem, he can contact us at the given mobile numbers. We shall ensure that the farmers get all kinds of door to door supply of seeds, fertilizers and other chemicals without any problem,” said Harnek Singh Rode, chief agriculture officer Faridkot.

"The farmers can contact the dealers from whom they purchase the seeds etc and in case of any problem, they can contact us. We have designated the whole sellers and good retailers in this regarding," Rode said.

Cotton Corporation of India can purchase the produce from the markets of the district

DM Faridkot, KS Raj, realizing the problems of the cotton growers has allowed the CCI to procure the produce of the farmers during curfew by showing their departmental ID cards.

An application demanding the relief from curfew was moved by the sub office of the CCI sub office Jaitu, which has been allowed.

However, social distance is must.

But it is yet to be seen how the dealers or wholesalers react when they have to supply the required seeds etc to farmers at their door steps without any delivery charges, which has been mandated by the administration.
