Youth Congress leader among seven booked for spreading panic about coronavirus pandemic

The Bilga police on Sunday booked seven persons including a youth congress leader on the charges of spreading panic about coronavirus pandemic and violating orders issued by the district magistrate in this regard.

Investigating officer (IO) Gursharan Singh said that the accused have been identified as Rohit Kumar son of Ramesh Kumar a resident of Aujla village(youth congress leader), Karandip Singh a resident of Lidharr Kalan village, Mandip Singh and Paramjit Sing Deepak Kumar residents of Aujla village and Manny a resident of Sidham village under Nurmahal police station.

IO said that a medico-legal- report from Karandip Singh of Liddar Kalan village and an application from  Rohit Kumar of Aujla village.

IO said that the police reached civil hospital Bilga where a doctor said patient Karandip Singh has been referred to Jalandhar civil hospital and on March 4 and 5 Karandip Singh was asked to record his statement at Aujla village who said that he will record his statement after two-three days.   

IO said that on investigating medico-legal report and application it has been found that first-party comprising Karandip Singh, Karanprit Singh, Mandip Singh, Paramjit Singh and Mani and second party compromising Rohit Kumar and Dipak Kumar along with the youth of unidentified village have spread panic about coronavirus and violated the order of the district magistrate.

IO said that a case under section 188(disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant.) 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life,) and section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act 2005 has been registered against the accused. No arrests have been made.

It is pertinent to mention here that Karandip Singh was injured in a fight between two groups near Aujla village last week and youth congress leader Rohit Kumar’s pistol was used for firing in the air.
