JALANDHAR: Due to delayed entry of former Amritsar’s MP Navjot Sidhu, Central Election Committee today kept pending the candidate selection process for Amritsar and Jalandhar district.

CEC’s marathon meeting took place today and finalised candidates of several candidates, but preferred to keep pending the process for selection of Congress candidates from Amritsar and Jalandhar, in wait of the possible entry of Sidhu in party fold tomorrow (Wednesday).

“Candidates of rest of the remaining seats were finalised and it is expected that list may be release tonight or tomorrow”, highly placed sources punjabtribune.com

Asked why candidates selection process of Jalandhar was delayed when Sidhu’s name is expected to be from Amritsar district, sources said “Since entry of Olympian Pargat Singh was made in the ‘package entry’ along with Sidhu, thus the list of Jalandhar’s candidates was also delayed”.

It is expected that Pargat is eager to contest from Jalandhar Cantonment assembly segment which he was representing on behalf of SAD in the current assembly, but PPCC Chief is pitching for former MLA and District (Rural) President Jagbir Singh Brar from the seat.

“In case of Sidhu will be adamant for allotment of Congress ticket for Pargat from Jalandhar Cantonment, then Brar would be shown the way to the adjoining constituency of Nakodar”, sources added.
