Life starts moving in lockdown after curfew in Bathinda

Bathinda: Following the relaxation in the curfew, the people of Bathinda district have started reviving their lives now following the rules of lockdown. Bus service resumed on selected routes from Wednesday but people started travelling following the code of conduct. All buses are being sanitized before moving to carry passengers.

Disclosing this here today the Deputy Commissioner B Sri Niwasan thanked the people for their support during the last two months and said that even now the people were walking consciously and taking care of the principle of social distance in the markets. "Only with the cooperation of the people we can stop the spread of Covid 19 disease," he said.

The Deputy Commissioner said that various activities have been started in the district. He said that with this life is returning to normalcy.

District Manager DIC Darshan Singh said that industries have started functioning in District Bathinda. He said that 1492 industrial units have been resumed production in rural areas while 2283 units are now operational in urban areas. In these industrial units, 21607 and 15413 people have started working as workers respectively. He said that the remaining industry will also start working in a phased manner.

Regarding the banking sector, District Lead Bank Manager Jaisankar Sharma said that 339 bank branches in the district have started functioning as per normal working hours and an average of 50,000 transactions are taking place in these branches daily. Apart from this selected services have also started in the Sewa Kendras and work has also resumed in the government offices as per the instructions of the government.

Cooperative Department also picks up speed

Cooperatives Department has also started contributing especially in the rural economy. The co-operative societies have supplied goods worth Rs. 27,30,153 in the district in just last two days. Similarly the Cooperative Societies have provided fertilizer worth Rs. 69.44 lakh to the farmers in just a couple of days. Verka procured 2.13 lakh liters of milk from farmers in past two days and provided 97107 liters of milk to the customers. Similarly, Markfed supplied 4600 kg ghee in the same period. The cooperative banks of the district have issued short term agricultural loans of Rs. 1384 lakh to the farmers in the last two days only.
