Country's first state-of-the-art Corona testing lab inaugurated at Faridkot

 Faridkot: Punjab Cabinet Minister for Medical Research and Education OP Soni inaugurated country's first state-of-the-art corona testing T.B. Liquid Culture and D.S.T Biology Lab at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College,Faridkot on Friday.

Soni said that the Punjab Government under the able leadership of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh was working extensively to prevent the spread of Corona epidemic and accelerate sampling, testing and treatment of patients. State-of-the-art labs have been set up at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot, Government Medical College, Patiala and Amritsar to enhance the testing capacity of corona patients in the state. In these labs COVID -19 is tested with hi-tech machines and advanced techniques whereby staff working in these labs is safe and is at no risk of contracting the disease. 

 

He said that with the setting up of these labs the daily corona testing capacity in the state would reach 9000. He said that one lab would have 3000 tests and the combined capacity of the three labs would now be 9000. Earlier, 1500 tests were done in a day. He said that now Punjab would become the leading state in the country in terms of testing. He said that earlier, samples for corona test had to be sent to Pune laboratory and it would take more than 14 days for their report to be received. He said that with the setting up of these labs the report would now be received on the same day.

In response to a media query, O.P. Soni said that the Punjab government was sending migrant workers and other people to their home states by special trains and buses as per their wishes while special measures were being taken by the government to bring Punjabis stranded on foreign shores, back to Punjab. Arrangements have been made in the state for their accommodation, isolation and quarantine.

Baba Farid University Dr. Raj Bahadur, Sandeep Singh Sunny Brar OSD to Chief Minister, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj and District Police Chief Manjit Singh Dhesi, Principal GGS Medical College Dr. Deepak John Bhatti, M.S. Dr. Rajiv Joshi, Dr. Rohit Chopra, were present on the occasion.
