IMA Punjab on war path with the Government

Rajnish Sareen | May 24, 2020 04:19 PM
Ludhiana: An emergency meeting of the Governing Council of IMA Punjab was held at IMA House Ludhiana to discuss the situation arising out of the cowardly imposition of The Punjab Clinical Establishment  Act under the cover of a fight against  COVID 19.  Local branch presidents and Secretaries joined the meeting online.

Every member condemned this action of the Punjab government and questioned its timing when the whole private sector is fighting this battle along with its government colleagues.

Members were agitated at the betrayal of the Government as it threw the suggestions made by IMA Punjab in joint
committee meetings into the dustbin and the Act was notified by ordinance route even before the proposed draft was fully discussed in the joint committee constituted by the Health minister. We fail to understand why Principal Health  Secretary was in such a hurry when at the moment the priority is to focus on the battle against COVID 19. There can’t be a worse way to derail this battle than to antagonize the private health sector which is providing more than 75 % of services and hide behind this distraction to cover his failures on all fronts.

IMA Punjab feels that we can’t trust this government and especially Principal Secretary Health Anurag Aggarwal and Health minister Punjab anymore and expect no justice from this dispensation.  Congress Govt has gone back on its promise made in its manifesto to regularize nursing homes and hospitals on as and where basis. Congress manifesto committee was on its knees before the private doctors before assembly elections and promised us moon but has gone back on every promise made the CEA imposed by Punjab Government will not bring any benefits but will unleash the inspector raj and increase the cost of treatment manifolds.

IMA Punjab demands withdrawal of this draconian act immediately it was unanimously passed in this meeting that if this act is not withdrawn  IMA Punjab will hit the roads to embark upon the path of sustained agitation in form of total shut down and paralysis of health services till this act is withdrawn.  Any deleterious effect on public health will be the sole responsibility of the Government.

Details of the agitation will be issued shortly.
