Relief to poor families during lockdown, 75 per cent distribution of food grains under PMGKAY completed in Bathinda

 Bathinda: The distribution of 75 per cent wheat and 70 per cent pulses has been completed under the Prime Minister's Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY) to provide relief to the poor families during the Covid Lockdown in Bathinda district.

Disclosing this here today District Food and Supply Controller Mandeep Singh Mann said that as per the instructions of Food and Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, 'End to End Computerization' has been followed to maintain complete transparency in the distribution of food-grains. He said that Food and Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu was personally supervising the distribution of food-grains to ensure that no eligible beneficiary was deprived of food-grains.

He said that under the National Food Security Mission, the food grains would be distributed to about 1,86,696 Atta-Dal and Anantodia card beneficiary families (approximately 6,93,934 members) in the district and the distribution of foodgrains would reach 100 per cent with in next week. Under this food distribution scheme, poor families are being given 5 kg wheat per person per month i.e. 15 kg wheat per person for three months and one kg per family per month ie 3 kg pulses per family for three months together. The food grains are being distributed for three months from April to June, under which no money is being taken from them.

He further said that under the directives of the Punjab government not to compromise on the quality of food grains, only quality food grains were being distributed to the beneficiaries. He said that some delay was happened as NAFED sent poor quality pulses which were replaced from same agency. He said that the district has received quota of 1,10,030 quintals of wheat and 5797 quintals of pulses. Out of this, 3921 quintals of pulses have been distributed to 1,30,700 households and 78,420 quintals of wheat to 5,22,800 beneficiaries, so for.

According to the District Food and Supply Controller, during the distribution of food grains through 702 ration depots in the district, full emphasis has been laid on providing adequate quantity of wheat and pulses to the people. He said that the distribution of food-grains among the families in the district under the Prime Minister's Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna would be completed within the next one week.
