The police party raids his house taking the three male members of the family of the complainant along with it and even searches every nook and corner of his house.

Family alleged police went all out to harass as the family of the complaint is influential.

Faridkot: On a complaint of a minor scuffle between the two persons of village Langhewala Navan (Moga), the Baghapurana police, went all out after the alleged accused Harbans Singh,58, that the man had to leave his house on the same evening of Thursday.

Harbans Singh, a resident of village Langhewala Navan, had a scuffle with his cousin Balkar Singh of the same village on Thursday morning.

“I was hoeing up my vegetables in the backyards of my house when my cousin reached there at a worship place in the fields. When he was returning, he coughed at me (Khangura maria) and it was followed by a minor scuffle between us. I slapped him and he slapped me as well and during this fight without any arms or sticks, his turban fell off,” said Harbans Singh, the accused in the case.

The fight took place due to an old rivalry between the two.

“As the police received the complaint, it reached my house the same evening and stayed there for an hour while I was out. The next day, the police again came and searched our house in the absence of any Sarpanch or responsible persons from village  to nab me,” Harbans alleged.

“As the complainant is an influential person and the police started harassing me merely on complaint instead of fair inquiry, So I had to leave my house,” he claimed.

Harbans said that he had to run from his house because the complainant had design against me to have me illegally detained and get insulted at the police station.

“The Baghapurana police barged into our house in the next day while the gate of the house was open. They were accompanied by the three men from the family of the complainant. They all searched our house to pick up husband who had already left the house out of the fear of the police brutality. The ASI who has the complaint with him against us, threatened me and asked me to accompany him to the police station. But I refused saying that I have a mentally challenged daughter and granddaughter to look after and if they want me to go to the police station, they should take us all three including my minor granddaughter which made the police to go back,’ alleged Paramjeet Kaur, wife of Harbans Singh, speaking over to this correspondent over phone.

“Besides the police, the family members of the complainant are keeping a watch on us and they want to beat up my husband,” she alleged.

“The ASI had called me up and threatened me of dire consequences over phone so I had to switch my phone off and leave my house out of fear of beating at the police station,” said Harbans Singh.

The relatives reportedly tried to strike a compromise between the two, but the complainant refused on Tuesday after 5 days of incident as promised.

The police even did not lodge an FIR in this connection under the relevant sections of IPC after going through the complaint, but tried to harass the family to help complainant to settle personal scores.

Harbans Singh had been staying at the different relatives since the incident out of the fear of the police.

Satpal Singh, nephew of the accused also confirmed that the police had searched his house along with the male members of the family of the complainant.

When contacted, Kulwinder Singh Dhaliwal, station house officer police station Baghapuranba said that you should rather ask Harbans Singh what he had done.

On asking about as to why the police was harassing the family and threatening to round up his wife instead of lodging an FIR against the alleged accused, he did not come to the point and asked this correspondent to come to the police station for further information.

ASI Balvir Singh, handling the complaint denied all the allegations. “We wanted to take Harbans Singh  to the police station for inquiry. But he did not turn up,” he said.

When asked how the police searched his house taking the three male family members of the family from the complainant, he denied all allegations saying that people tend allege us falsely.

“First of all we have see if the litigants reach a compromise, and if they do not, we lodge FIRs as per the legal procedure. If the parties’ do not reach a compromise, we shall act as per law,” said Balvir Singh.
