Bathinda: Kalu Ram, a tailor, was lucky enough to be noticed by the finance minister Punjab sitting outside his shop. The Finance minister, Manpreet Singh Badal, notices the dilapidated condition of his tricycle and immediately orders the authorities to arrange for the new tricycle.

In the incident of Kalu Ram gets a cycle happened in Post office Bazaar Bathinda on Saturday.

Now Kalu Ram is more important for taking his photos for a release to the media.

But most of the Kalu Rams are not so lucky. They struggle to spend their life with a small amount of pensions paid to the physically challenged.

On Monday, the cabinet minister is all helpful to 3 persons, a wounded, a physically challenged and Rehri  wala.

He happened to notice one Hira Lal, wounded and the minister immediately offered him a financial assistance of Rs 10000 and shifted him to civil hospital.

One Binu Ram, physically challenged, got a financial assistance of Rs 5000.

The minister also assured Ram Singh, who sells Chole Bhature to get the school fees of his three daughters remitted.

The many who have not been seen may have been looking forwards to the government help.

"This is the mentality of our politicians and social workers which was more frequently seen during the lock-down. The social workers and government officials would offer small help but looked more interested in having their photographs clicked to post them on social media and in the print ,electronic or online. This mindset also shows the poor performance of the respective governments which have badly failed to provide the needed items to the people during all the years. These kinds of incidents the minister has taken a notice also tell about the sorry state of affairs at the ground level," said  a Kotkapura resident wishing not to be quoted.

"Whenever we used to get some small help by the government during curfew, the village Panchayat was directed to take our photographs with that article, it gives us a feeling of begging something instead of our right," said another beneficiary from Faridkot district.
