Faridkot: The court of duty magistrate Faridkot has sent the 5 accused in the theft of “Bir of Sri Guru Granth Sahib” to the police remand by June 6 . The SIT led by DIG Jalandhar Ranbir Singh Khatra had arrested 7 Dera followers in wee hours on Saturday and they were produced in the court of duty magistrate in the afternoon for their police remand.

Two of them, Sukhjinder Singh alias Sunny and Shakti Singh, through their counsels informed the court that they had been granted bail by the CBI court in September 2018 while the SIT had illegally arrested them without keeping the court in loop.

On this, the SIT filed an application in the court to release the two and the court ordered the release of  Sukhjinder and Shakti Singh.

The other five,Neela, Ranjeet Bhola, Nishan,Baljeet and Narinder Sharma were sent to the police remand for three days.

Earlier, the then SAD-BJP government had handed over the probe of sacrilege incident of Bagari village and theft case of Bir of Sri Guru Granth Sahib from village Burj Jawahar Singh wala to CBI.

The incident of the theft of the Bir had taken place on June 1,2015 in village Burj Jawahar Singh wala and thereafter, the torn pages of this Bir were allegedly thrown near the Gurdwara of village Bargari in the street on October 12,2015 which had led to the large scale of protests and Behbal kalan police firing had taken place on October 14,2015 in which two sikh men were killed.

Now a SIT, led by its member Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh is probing the police firing incidents of Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura and another SIT, led by DIG Jalandhar range is probing the incident of sacrilige and theft of Bir.

Earlier too, SIT had arrested the 10 dera followers in its custody and one of them, Mohinderpal Bittu was killed in Nabha Jail last year.

The case has come to the SIT led by Kharta after a long legal battle  because the CBI, probing the case, had filed a closure report in the said case in 2018.
