350 bedded Covid care facility to be set up in PIMS -DC

Move aimed at tackling any sort of unforeseen urgency effectively

 Jalandhar- In another initiative aimed at containing the Covid 19 pandemic more efficaciously, the district administration today gave in principle approval for converting 350 bedded Covid Treatment Facility at the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) into Covid Care Treatment facility, to meet any unforeseen urgency.

A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting by the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Ghanshyam Thori to review the situation. During the meeting in principle approval was given for setting up the Covid Care Treatment facility, if the need arises, adding that the formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this would be signed in the coming days.     

The PIMS would be declared Covid isolation centre by government of Punjab after signing of MoU.

 During the meeting with the high level team, the Deputy Commissioner said that in this situation when the entire globe was fighting with pandemic the PIMS has to play a major role. He  said that being a medical college the hospital has a state of the art infrastructure which could be required for further tackling this pandemic effectively. Thori said that need of the hour was to join hand for fighting Corona Virus through a multi pronged approach. 

The Deputy Commissioner further said that the services of the private hospitals would also be roped in for effectively tackling the Covid 19. He said that the private players must come forward for the service of humanity in this hour of severe crisis. Thori said that there was no dearth of resources and manpower with the state government to tackle this pandemic.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the major focus was only on saving the precious lives of people from thus pandemic for which all of us have to join hands. Thori said that it was the moral duty of all of us to fight this war against Covid 19 effectively with better coordination.

Additional Deputy Commissioners Vishesh Sarangal and Jasbir Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ms D Sudarvizhi, SDMs Rahul Sindhu, Dr Jai Inder Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Kaur Chawla, Medical Superintendent Dr Harinder Singh, SP Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu and others were present.
