Jalandhar will miss the man who changed the dynamics of PR in Jalandhar

JALANDHAR: Public Relations (PR) department has a challenging role to play in Jalandhar being the media hub of Punjab and no one could have taken this challenge more proficiently as recently promoted Deputy Director PR Manvinder Singh, who has worked as District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) Jalandhar, had done during his three years stint.

At helms of affairs in Jalandhar office Manvinder Singh changed the dynamics of PR in last three years from being a low profile backseat department to a proactive and aggressive department capable of combating any task effectively. In other words Manvinder Singh effectively managed to change the profile of department from merely issuing Press notes to a full fledged crisis management department. Whether it was floods or now Corona Virus pandemic the DPRO office worked tirelessly not only to project the good deeds of the government and the administration but in this age of social media it was a single platform for authentic information.

The role of DPRO office no longer remained confined up to issuing of press notes but to cater to the need of electronic media video shots, bites and high-quality pictures were also released. In the same manner, the Punjab government and district administration was seen directly communicating with the people through social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Whatsapp, and others which played a crucial role not only in building the image of the state government but also in crisis management. From a backbench officer to frontline warrior the DPRO was seen everywhere, albeit low profile, with Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner, and Senior Superintendent of Police to take any challenge head-on.

Midnight interviews of these officers on social media along with their live streaming for public interaction spoke volumes about the successful PR of the government in this hour of crisis. Not only this the deft handling of media during fortnight-long 550th Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is another feather in the cap of Manvinder Singh, who oversaw these arrangements as DPRO Kapurthala. The Media fraternity will ever remember the coziness with which he often met the media persons even during the hour of crisis and equally his good relations with all the media houses due to which he managed to get positive coverage for the government.

I have witnessed Manvinder’s transformation from a firebrand journalist to an able, hard-working, polite but assertive PR officer with extraordinary writing as well as oratory skills. Deputy Director is a new and challenging assignment for Manvinder but going by his never say die attitude everyone is sure that he will leave his imprint on this new task. But one thing is sure that Jalandhar will always miss this young man who changed the face of PR in the district and took it to its highest level.
