Faridkot: Chief agriculture officer (CAO) Faridkot Harnek Singh Rode has warned the pesticide dealers in the district not to sell unnecessary products to the farmers and do not tag any unwanted product along with the product required by the farmers.

“The cotton crop is at flowering stage and the attack of the sucking and other pests has not crossed the economic threshold level(ETL) at most of the places. So farmers are advised not to use unnecessary chemicals as fungicides and insecticides . They can rather spray Potassium Nitrate(13:0:45) at weekly intervals four times which would lead to an increase in the yield of the crop,” the CAO said.

Besides cotton, Maize and other pulse crops are in good condition and farmers should try their best not to let the water stand in these crops, he said.

"In case of flooding, fields should be emptied as soon as possible,' he said.

He said that due to the shortage of labour, nearly 20 per cent area of paddy has been sown by using DSR technique which is a welcome shift in paddy transplantation.

“The farmers should continue to survey their crops and use the chemicals as per the needs only. The farmers can also apply for subsidized solar powered borewell pumps for 3 to 10 HP which fall under certain categories. The last date for the submission of complete applications is July 27 and they are advised to log on to the officials website of the department www.pedasolarpumps.com for more information,’ he said.
