Woman Sarpanch among four booked for abetting suicide

NAKODAR The Nakodar sadar police have booked four persons including woman Sarpanch and her two colleagues  on the charges of abetting suicide.

The investigating officer (IO) and Shankar police post –in-charge Gurnam Singh said that the accused have been identified as Bajuha Kalan village Sarpanch Nachhater Kaur wife of Jarnail Dass, members panchayat Karamjit Singh son of Amrik Singh and Mohindar Pal son of Amar Chand and a woman resident of village Bajuha Kalan Sarabjit  Kaur wife of Rakesh Kumar.

Balwinder Ram, a resident of Hiyala village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and  brother of the deceased Rajani who committed suicide on Thursday complained to police that his sister’s marriage was solemnized with Nikka Ram of Bajuha Kalan village in 2005 but now she was living separately.

 He said in his complaint that Rajani has a quarrel with the accused Sarabjit some time ago which was brought before village panchayat which was discussed on June 30 in presence of his sister.

Ram said that his sister was publically insulted and humiliated by the panchayat and the accused Sarabjit and his sister could not bear this insult and humiliation and ended his life on Thursday by hanging herself with a ceiling fan in her house adding that four accused forced her sister to commit suicide.  

IO said a case under sections 306(abetting suicide) of the IPC has been registered against the accused. No arrests have been made and raids are being conducted to nab absconding accused. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem.
