Maharashtra topped India with respect to specialists at CHCs in urban areas

As on 31st March 2019, there were 1,017 (74.78%) specialists (Surgeons, OB&GY, Physicians & Paediatricians) in position at Community Health Centres (CHCs) in urban areas of India; out of sanctioned strength of 1,360 specialists. The top 10 States/Union Territories (UTs) with respect to specialists (Surgeons, OB&GY, Physicians & Paediatricians) in position at CHCs in urban areas as on 31st March 2019 were Maharashtra, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.said a report based on data from Union Ministry of Health and Family welfare which has been posted on website t data.gov,in.

It said that the number of specialists in position at CHCs in urban areas of Maharashtra was 341 as on 31-03-2019, which accounted 33.53% of the total specialists at CHCs in urban areas of India. There were 208 specialists in position at CHCs in urban areas of West Bengal as on 31.03.2019. It accounted 20.45% of the total specialists at CHCs in urban areas of India as on the same period. The number of specialists in position at CHCs in urban areas of Andhra Pradesh was 140 as on 31/03/2019, which accounted 13.77% of the total specialists at CHCs in urban areas of India.

There were 52 and 42 specialists in position at CHCs in urban areas of Telangana and Odisha respectively as on 31st March 2019. Telangana accounted for 5.11% and Odisha accounted for 4.13% of the total specialists at CHCs in urban areas of India as on 31-03-2019.

The number of specialists in position at CHCs in urban areas of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh was 40, 35, 29, 28 and 25 respectively as on 31st March 2019. These aforementioned top 10 States/UTs accounted for 92.43% of the total specialists at CHCs in urban areas of India as a whole as on 31.03.2019.
