Awareness vans of agriculture department covers 400 villages of district

Sensitizing farmers for not burning paddy stubble

Disseminating the message of clean, green and pollution free environment

 

 Jalandhar- The Five awareness vans which were flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori  on October 14, have covered 400 villages of the district on Friday.

This initiative of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has received enthusiastic response from the peasantry of the district.

The vans have been equipped with audio messages ensuring that farmers being made aware about harmful effects of the paddy stubble burning.

Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Surinder Singh said that the vans have been covering around 28 villages of the district daily to spread the message of not burning the paddy stubble.

He said that the Jalandhar has around 1005 villages and all will be covered by the vans to take the message of clean and pollution free environment at the grassroots.

He told that the vans' staff is also distributing pamphlets among the villagers to make them aware about unhealthy practice of burning stubble.

He said that reckless burning of paddy stubble not only causes irreversible damage to the texture of soil, natural environment, human health but it may aggravate the Covid situation this year.

Dr Singh said that the panchayats have also been giving overwhelming response to the awareness drive and ensuring their villages remain free from the stubble burning.

He solicited fulsome support of the peasantry in the wiping out the menace from the district.
