DC orders widespread Covid testing in Jalandhar, directs health teams to ensure 6000 Covid samples daily

Asks to improve contact tracing to curb transmission at an early stage besides launching special drive to strictly enforce safety precautions

 Jalandhar- Amid the possibilities of second Covid wave may surface in next two weeks, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori has directed health department to ensure collection of 6000 Covid samples daily to ensure early detecting and treating the potential Covid patients to contain the spread of contagion.

Participating in video conference chaired by Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan, Deputy Commissioner accompanied by SSP Jalandhar Rural Sandeep Kumar Garg and SSP Kapurthala Kanwardeep Kaur, asked the department to hold Covid sampling camps in the places having high footfall and ensure achieving the target of 6000 samples daily.

Ghanshyam Thori further asked them to conduct the sampling in colleges, schools, hostels and other institutions to detect the potential cases adding that widespread and extensive testing will lead to low positivity rate and bring the transmission under control.

He asked the aggressive testing will ensure that undetected cases are identified promptly and effective tracing, containment and treatment.

Deputy Commissioner said more we test better are chances of not missing the infected especially asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic patients who otherwise will be roaming within society freely and spreading infection.

Further, he asked the officials to improve contract tracing of a positive case which will help to contain the spread. He said that the district administration was fully geared up and well prepared to tackle the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic if it surfaces in the next few weeks.

He said that the beds in private and government hospitals were already reserved.  He said that the district administration would leave no stone unturned to serve people in these trying situations.

He asked the police department to strictly enforce the mask-wearing ban as mask in the only vaccine right now to prevent the spread of Covid. The deputy commissioner ordered to launch a special drive to enforce safety precautions strictly including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. He directed officials to panelize those violating these guidelines and carry out the enforcement drive aggressively besides special night patrolling. 

Further, he urged people to follow safety precautions that include wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, washing hands, and others to halt the spread of the infections.

Prominent among present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Kaur Chawla, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Gurmeet Kaur Duggal and others.
